Frank Apicella, research and development manager for BASF Construction Chemicals, has been appointed to a three year term on the Technical Activities Committee of the International Concrete Repair Institute.

Stephanie M. Brown, an expert in online social media and public relations, has joined the staff of Constructive Communication team, responsible for training clients in the intricacies of online social media and help identify which tools best fit their unique needs.

Robert Sly, AIA, has rejoined Group Goetz Architects as associate principal and studio director of GGA's commercial design practice.

Arthur S. Pantelides has been promoted to the position of director of engineering at Sumitomo Machinery Corp. of America to oversee the engineering, design, and research and development groups.

Andrew Maybee, P.E., has been hired as the first full-time executive director the Concrete Paving Association of Tennessee (CPAT). Prior to joining CPAT, he was vice president of engineering for CPI Concrete Products Inc, in Memphis, Tenn. Matthew Jeffers has been hired as the pavement applications director for Tennessee.  Before joining the association, he worked for the Tennessee Department of Transportation as a construction operation specialist on various bridge projects around Nashville.

John Crigler has been named president of VStructural LLC, a supplier of post-tensioning systems and services He previously served as a senior vice president.

Matt Matlas has joined Matcor Inc. as a senior managing corrosion engineer to oversee engineering operations out of Matcor's Gulf Coast office in Houston. Matlas has more than 15 years of engineering and cathodic protection design experience.

Kevin Muldoon and Scott Ryder, operation managers, have been promoted to district sales representatives by Spider, a division of SafeWorks LLC. Muldoon is responsible for solving the suspended access and safety challenges of contractors and facility owners in Ohio, western Pennsylvania, New York and West Virginia and eastern Kentucky; while Ryder will be doing the same thing in the Boston area. Steve Cabral, a field service technician, has been promoted to the new position of industrial sales representative in Spider's Eastern region.

Dennis J. Hall, FCSI, CCS, CCCA, FAIA, SCIP, of Hall Architects Inc. and chairman of Hall | Building Information Group LLC, has been elected president-elect of the Construction Specifications Institute.

The Concrete Sawing and Drilling Association (CSDA) has elected new officers: Doug Walker, Atlantic Concrete Cutting Inc., president;. Jim Dvoratchek, Hard Rock Concrete Cutters, vice president; Judith O'Day, Terra Diamond Industrial, secretary/treasurer; and Tom Stowell, Norton Pro Diamond, past president. Patrick O'Brien continues to serve as executive director. Henry Batten, executive vice president of Concrete Supply Co., Charlotte, N.C., has been named National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) chairman, succeeding Frank Craddock, executive vice president of Houston-based Cemex Inc. Also, Tim Becken of Cemstone Products Co. in Mendota Heights, Minn., was elected vice chairman; and Karl Watson Jr. of Cemex in West Palm Beach, Fla., secretary/treasurer.

The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) has handed out several awards: James Cook, Titan America (retired) director of technical services, Richard D. Gaynor Award; Bob Turner, Grace Construction Products (retired) senior vice president, William B. Allen Award; Jay Robinson, sales manager at Rock Hill Materials of Catasauqua, Penn., promoter of the year award; Rolland Johns, Cemex (retired) vice president of marketing, Lifetime Achievement Award for Promotion; Gary Mullings, NRMCA senior vice president of operations, Joseph E. Carpenter Award; and the Tennessee Concrete Association, State Association of the Year Award.

Karthik Obla, a National Ready Mixed Concrete Association engineer, has received the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Young Member Award for Professional Achievement "for contributions related to performance-based specifications for concrete, fiber reinforced concrete, and the use of ultrafine fly ash in concrete — and for outstanding service as an officer for the San Antonio ACI Chapter." 

The American Concrete Institute (ACI) has elected two new officers and four new board members: Florian G. Barth, founder and former president of FBA Inc., is president; and Kenneth C. Hover, professor of civil and environmental engineering and Stephen Weiss Presidential Fellow at Cornell University, is vice president. New board members include Dennis C. The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) has elected officers: J. The Hydraulic Institute (HI) has elected its 2009 Board of Directors and Officers at its 92nd annual meeting: Dennis Ziegler, GIW Industries, president; Steve Oswald, Industrial Division of Hamilton Sundstrand Corp., vice president; Ken Napolitano, ITT Industrial Process, vice president of Knowledge & Education; Dave McKinstry, IMO Pump, vice president of Technical Affairs; Bill Waltz, Flow Technologies Division of Pentair Water, chairman of the board; and Robert K. The Sealant, Waterproofing & Restoration Institute (SWR) has elected officers and five new directors: Frank Halsey, Mid-Continental Restoration Co.
