Bob Moore Construction Safety Director Dino Sideris has earned national recognition as part of QUOIN's Safety Leadership Resource Group with an award for Best Individual Public Relations Campaign in the country from the National AGC in Washington DC. The five-year campaign targeted the construction community's safety culture throughout North and East Texas.

The Insulating Concrete Form Association recently hired Vera Novak to become its technical services manager, a newly created position that will help promote the use of the insulating concrete form building system by fighting for code and standard advancements, creating publications and brochures and helping to further define the potential uses of insulating concrete forms (ICFs). Novak was previously environmental specialist for ECO-Block LLC.

Andrew McPherson, vice president of Seretta Construction, has been appointed to "Voting Member" for the American Concrete Institute 551 Committee. As an active member of this national committee, McPherson will use his in-depth tilt-up knowledge to help develop the standards and criteria by which all tilt wall structures shall conform.

Portland Cement Association has named John Spitaleri Shaw as vice president for legislative affairs to manage PCA's federal legislative advocacy efforts on a variety of fronts including environmental compliance, transportation and infrastructure legislation. The former campaign aide to Vice President Dick Cheney has most recently been the assistant secretary for environment, safety, and health at the U.S. Department of Energy
Patrick Bridger has been promoted to general manager at Allentown Equipment in Allentown, Penn. Bridger joined Allentown Equipment in 1997 as the manager of Concrete Repair. He assumed the role of sales manager in 2000, which expanded his responsibilities to encompass all markets including Concrete Repair, Refractory and Underground.

The Portland Cement Association has promoted Thomas B. Carter to staff vice president of regulatory affairs by the Portland Cement Association from the position of director of environment, health and safety since 1997. Also, David S. Hubbard has been named a staff vice president for legislative affairs. Hubbard, was formerly PCA's director of legislative affairs for 16 years.

Quad-Lock Building Systems Ltd presented awards to their most successful dealers. Real and Lyne Gagne of Gagne Foundations were presented the award for the North American sales region of Rocky Mountains/Prairie for the top Quad-Lock dealer worldwide. Peter Townend, Quad-Lock, U.K. was presented the award for International Sales award; Kevin Spaulding of Miles Supply in Barre, Vt. was presented the award for Eastern North American sales; Mike and Robin Hanes of Northern Shores Enterprises in Caro, Mich. were presented the award for the Central North American sales; and Don Tietz of Boise Cascade in Spokane was presented the award for the Western North American sales.

Lafarge North America has named Olivier Merindol president of the River Region for the Cement Division, replacing John Stull who has been named senior vice president for marketing and supply chain management for Lafarge's global cement business. The River Region, one of Lafarge Cement's five North American regions, comprises all or part of 15 states in the midwestern United States. For the past five years, he was senior vice president in charge of Lafarge's Corporate Technical Services Center (CTS) in Montreal.

Walker Lee Evey, president of the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), will deliver the opening keynote for the second annual convention of the Tilt-Up Concrete Association to be held Oct. 4-7 in Denver, Colo. Evey most recently served as senior vice president of 3D/International, Inc. - a design, management and construction company that employs 600 professionals in 18 offices nationwide. While at 3D/International, he took a leave of absence to serve as senior advisor to the Iraqi Ministry of Housing and Construction in their rebuilding efforts. Before coming to 3D/International, Evey was the program manager for the 10-year, $4 billion Pentagon Renovation Program.

William Tim McConnell has joined the Southeast Cement Association as Cement Stabilization Specialist for the Carolinas. McConnell is responsible for Soil Cement and Full Depth Reclamation using Cement market development as well as the association's outreach and education efforts to the state and local governments, private developers, architectural and engineering consultants, construction managers and general contractors. He has 12 years of experience with the North Carolina DOT, where he served as transportation engineering geologist for five years, then as geopavement engineer.

Zoran Prostran, an engineering technologist with Quad-Lock Building Systems in Surrey, B.C., has recently received accreditation as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED AP) professional.

Degussa Admixtures Inc. has added two positions dedicated to precast sales in the eastern United States. Gerald Lapier has been named sales specialist, responsible for coordinating the precast sales efforts and support in the Eastern Division. He began his career with Degussa Admixtures in January 2002 managing precast customers in the New England area. John Anthony Fiorilli joined Degussa Admixtures as the new Precast sales specialist for Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland in March. Fiorilli comes to Degussa from the Construction Products Division of Bekaert Corp.

New board members elected during the 2006 Concrete Sawing and Drilling Association Convention are Tim Beckman of Cutting Edge Services Corp. in Cincinnati, Ohio; Ron Culgin of Pro Cut Inc. in Waltham, Mass.; Bennett Jones of Advanced Concrete Sawing Inc. in Roseville, Minn.; George Major Jr. of Holes of San Antonio Inc. in San Antonio; Chris Priest of Sanders Saws in Honey Brook, Penn.; and Larz Smith of Concrete Penetrating Co. in Dallas. Officers include President Susan Hollingsworth of Holes Inc. of Houston; Vice President Tom Stowell of Norton Penhall Diamond in Fullerton, Calif. and Secretary and Treasurer Doug Walker of Atlantic Concrete Cutting in Mt. Holly, N.J. Ted Johnston is the immediate past president and Patrick O'Brien is the executive director.

Gregory T. Kinder, 45, has joined Modine Manufacturing Co. in the newly created position of vice president of global purchasing. Kinder has more than 21 years of experience, 19 years of which he spent with Johnson Controls, Inc., where he held international assignments in Belgium, Singapore and China.

The Sustainable Buildings Industry Council has elected eight new directors for a three year term: Gregg Ander, chief architect for the Southern California Edison Co.; James Antonic, president and CEO for Composite Building Structures Ltd and CBS Homes Florida LLC; Jared Blum, president of the Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association; Leon Chatelain, president of Chatelain Architects; Deane Evans, executive director of the New Jersey Institute of Technology's Center for Architecture and Building Science Research; Joyce Lee, chief architect, office of the mayor, New York City Office of Management and Budget, representing the American Institute of Architects; Tom Newton, manager of advertising and promotions for the CertainTeed Corp.; and Maria Viteri, National Director of Program Development for the International Masonry Institute.
