Several concrete industry associations are offering a one-day seminar titled Storm-Resistant Concrete Building Systems, scheduled for three locations in the Gulf Coast region April 11-13.
Storm-Resistant Concrete Building Systems will be offered April 11 in Hattiesburg, Miss.; April 12 in Baton Rouge, La.; April 13 in Mobile, Ala. Topics covered during the seminar include hurricane forces and hurricane resistant construction, building code requirements for hurricane zones, concrete masonry construction, precast concrete systems, tilt-up concrete construction, removable forming systems and insulating concrete forms.
Concrete has long been recognized as the material of choice for resisting high winds, flying debris, and storm surge associated with hurricanes and tornadoes. These seminars will demonstrate how concrete building systems can be used to build storm-resistant homes and buildings.
Builders, architects, engineers, contractors, building officials and product suppliers are invited to attend. The general public is also welcome. Attendees will receive seven professional development hours.
The registration fee is $49 and includes continental breakfast and lunch. The workshops are sponsored by the Alabama Concrete Industries Association, Concrete and Aggregates Association of Louisiana, Mississippi Concrete Industries Association, Concrete Monthly magazine, and Concrete Homes magazine. The seminars are being delivered in cooperation with the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, Concrete Foundations Association, Insulating Concrete Form Association, National Concrete Masonry Association, Portland Cement Association, Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute and Tilt-Up Concrete Association.
